Remembering a Fallen O: Ted Damiter

The Oriole family is saddened by the loss of Ted Damiter who passed on March 10th, 2025 and would like to send condolences to his family, friends, and teammates.

Ted a McAdoo native and Hazleton High School productattended Shippensburg University. As Red Raider, Ted was inducted into their sports Hall of Fame in 1998. In 1977, Ted helped lead Shippensburg to a PSAC Championship and Mid-Atlantic Region Championship which led to a Division II College World Series appearance. Ted currently is 8th all-time in pitching wins (20) and 10th all-time in innings pitched (220.0).

Upon his collegiate success, Ted was drafted by the New York Mets organization and spent several years playing in their system. Ted made it to class A before suffering an injury that ended his professional career.

Ted rebounded from his injury and competed in the Blue Mountain League for 15 seasons, establishing himself as one of the premier pitchers in the league. During his tenure, Ted was selected as All-League Pitcher in 1985, 1986, and 1995 during the metal bat era where hitting dominated the league.

Ted finished his Blue Mountain League pitching career with 134 wins, including an astounding 17-0 season in 1985. During that same season, Ted earned the Turoscy Award for his mastery and efficiency on the mound. Ted was also an intricate piece and contributing member of the 1985, 1986, and 1988 Orioles championship teams.

Above all, Ted was well liked by his teammates and those who competed against him in the Blue Mountain League. Ted was a lifelong Oriole who came to games at Egypt well after his playing days were over to support the team.

The Orioles franchise retired Ted’s #24 and he will always be remembered as an all-time great player and person.

    History is Made

On Sunday, June 23rd, 17th-year veteran and longtime Orioles Pitcher, Justin Jachowicz, made history. In a comeback victory over the Limeport Bulls, Jachowicz notched his 80th career victory on the mound for the Orioles. Now sitting at the top of the Blue Mountain League Record Books for Pitcher Wins, Jachowicz hopes to put this record out of reach.
